Common Damage of Battery and How to Recondition Batteries

Below are the common damage of batteries we have listed for you. Accompanying is the remedy of each case:

1. Sulfate phenomenon.

Reason:
- Battery used exhausted but not supplemented.
- Incorrect loading, insufficient capacity or repeated loading of insufficient capacity leads to increased accumulation of sulfate.
- Vehicle feeder (vehicle) is poorly functioning.
- The vehicle wiring system (vehicle) is touched by the circuit to self-discharge the battery power.
- Supplement with sulfuric acid solution (instead of distilled water) ...
Phenomena:
- The use time is shorter than usual.
- Weak start or no boot.
- When charging: normal, voltage and density increase steadily during charging, and remain stable after loading. However, there are cases where it is necessary to perform multiple charging and discharging cycles to overcome sulfate.
How to fix:
- Need to charge periodically (every three months at most) according to the necessary charging mode
- Refurbished battery 12 v - See how to do it here: Renovate A Lead Acid Battery - Sulfation is the Enemy of Lead-Acid Type Batteries

2. Polarity phenomenon.

Polarity phenomenon

Cause: The battery is inverted with extreme polarity during use or when loaded.
Voltage: not normal, voltage <12V depending on the degree of extreme reverse charging, or only in the opposite direction.
Proportion of electrolyte: quite equal among compartments
Phenomenon: The color of two types of leaves is quite similar.
Remedies: Resilience depends on the level of backfill. Normally, a cycle of loading and discharging must be conducted several times with distilled water.

3. Exploding the bottle.

Cause: Due to short-circuiting, or due to poor contact with the device; Because the vent on the button is sealed when charging or by electrical sparks
Prevention: Check and clean the terminals connected to the device. When additional loading should open the buttons. Avoid short-circuiting during disassembly and maintenance. Do not leave the bottle near places with electrical sparks.
How to handle: Replace new. (not covered by warranty)

4. Short-circuit phenomenon (Touch)

Cause: A battery compartment is short-circuited (cathode and anode touch each other inside the battery)
- Voltage: every time a battery compartment is touched, the battery is lost about 2.1V.
- Electrolyte density: unevenly between compartments, and the prevented block has a lower density.
Phenomena
- On startup:
+ Strong boiling in the blocked compartment due to water analysis at the touch point (the remaining compartments are not or very little boiling)
+ Battery voltage drops very quickly when discharging.
- When charging:
+ Do not boil in the drawer hit by electrical conductivity (the remaining compartments boil evenly)
+ Battery voltage decreases gradually after charging.
Remedy: It is possible to rinse many times, by putting distilled water in a jar and rinse it, charge and check again. Resilience depends on the degree or form of short circuit.

5. Battery solution is depleted (Lower electrolyte level "Low Leave")

Lower electrolyte level

Cause: no regular maintenance, during use.
How to prevent: care. Check and clean batteries and equipment regularly during use.
Remedy: Add distilled water (maintenance support) ((never add mineral water, or strange solutions.

6. Reduce capacity.

Cause: During use, there is no maintenance or improper maintenance; wrong propose.
Precautions: Use the right type of bottle, for the right purpose; regular maintenance.
Treatment:
- Replace acid with filtered water, or distilled water then recharge until boiling all holes (hole for adding Acid solution).
- Replace with 1.25% acid water, recharge until full.
- If not, it is recommended to replace the product.
